Mini Shift Cut Short

Photo concept by Natsumi Hayashi
It was just too small and came with matching boxer shorts.  I had made several such summer shifts in the past and now it was time to move it into the present.

First, I shortened the mini to hip length to create a tunic top.  Next I ripped open the
side seams up to the underarms.  Sacrificing the boxers, I cut out 2 tall and narrow triangular pieces and fit one in each side of the dress seams I had opened up.  I used the left-over piece I trimmed off the dress to create fancier sleeves, 1/2 for each sleeve, keeping the already hemmed part for the hem of the sleeve.  Easy-peasy, right?  More or less.
